Feminism, Technology, Noise

Workshop

This workshop will examine the historical, political and aesthetic relationship between three terms – feminism, technology, noise – via an examination of texts, sound, films and collective thought. We will look at the use and abuse of noise and the ‚female-sounding‘ recorded voice in public (or formerly public spaces). We will think about the history of technology and gender via machines of all sizes. We will think about ‚intimate‘ technologies, biotechnologies and sonic technologies and the relationship between control and emancipation. We will talk about prisons, robots, automation and its limits, the future of work and social reproduction. Participants are encouraged to suggest further material (of any medium) for discussion.
